The exciting Scottish restaurant in Robert Burns country that's just been added to the Michelin Guide

A restaurant housed within a pub that famously used to serve Robert Burns has just been added to the Michelin Guide. 1610 at the famous Globe Inn in Dumfries was praised by the Michelin team for its "creative, modern dishes".

The pub, which dates back to 1610 (the name given to its restaurant), is famous as Robert Burn's favourite Howff – a haunt or favourite drinking establishment in Scots – and is considered to be one of the oldest pubs in Scotland.

The Inn itself even has a museum dedicated to the bard, where you can sit in his seat, the Poets Chair, visit his bed chamber, kitchen and dining room, as well as seeing the diamond etched verses scribed on the windowpane by Burns himself.

Speaking about the 1610 restaurant, the Michelin Guide posted: "A beacon in the area, the historic Globe Inn is well known as a favourite haunt of the legendary Scottish poet, Robert Burns, and with over 300 whiskies available – including some from the owners’ distillery – it’s a good idea to start with a drink in the cosy snug where he would have held court.

"Head afterwards to the atmospheric, vintage-style restaurant – whose name is a reference to the date it first opened – to enjoy creative, modern dishes, which are well-crafted and full of colour and flavour. Go for the tasting menu for the full 1610 experience."

The stylish restaurant, which is housed in what was once the stables and is skillfully run by Head Chef, Jonathan Brett, serves up dishes such as Salt-Aged Duck, Fillet of Galloway Beef and Seared Scallop.
