The ‘excellent’ move that just paid off for Swansea City as fresh option emerges for Peterborough United trip

Matt Gill believes Kyle Joseph and Nathanael Ogbeta will hugely benefit from their outings with Swansea City's Under-23s on Monday.

Ogbeta played the opening half of the 5-1 triumph over Queens Park Rangers' young guns at the Swansea.com Stadium while Joseph netted four goals in south Wales before being withdrawn.

Both are set to be included in the matchday squad to face Peterborough United in the Championship on Wednesday night while Cameron Congreve will also hope to be in the travelling party having made his senior bow at Blackpool.

And Swansea's technical development coach Gill believes the run-out for Kris O'Leary's side will do both Ogbeta and Joseph the world of good.

"There’s a balancing act between training and games," he said.

"Nat coming back from injury needed some game-time. Kyle has made an impact off the bench but it turned out to be excellent for him today.

"Starting a game for the under-23s and getting loads of opportunities in front of goal was great for him, so it’s probably worked out really well.

"A few boys trained and a few played. They’ll all be ready for Wednesday if needed."

In a further boost ahead of the clash with The Posh, Hannes Wolf has stepped up in training.

The Austrian has not featured since the 2-0 triumph over West Brom and has recently ramped up his training regime following a spell out of action with Covid-19.

"Hannes is back with the group today," said Gill.

"We’re keeping an eye on him. We’ll see how he feels after training today. He’s a fit boy. Hopefully we’ll have him involved in the squad."

Swansea enjoyed plenty of possession in their most recent outing against Blackpool, although they ended the contest having had just one effort on target.

They were undone by a set-piece which saw Gary Madine head home the only goal of the contest after just four minutes.

And Gill says the Swans need to take more risks in the final third if they are to fully capitalise on their dominance of matches.

"It’s disappointing, we're very frustrated with the result. But there’s so much to be pleased with in the performance," explained Gill.

"Dominating possession that much away from home isn’t done too much in the Championship, it’s a hard thing to do.

"It’s about control for us. It’s a very random game, so the more you control the better.

"It's certainly something we know we need to improve on, and probably take more risks in the final third, I think that'll help.

"Being a little bit more proactive in the final third, I think everyone will admit that.

"I think we probably arrive in the final third with more control and good team structure than anyone in the league, but now it’s about us adding that final bit. We now need to add that layer of opportunities created and take those opportunities."

Kick-off against Peterborough is at 7:45pm on Wednesday.
