The exact areas of Liverpool now under new coronavirus restrictions

Three areas of Liverpool have now been placed under some new emergency coronavirus restrictions as the city battles to stop the spread of infections.

Last week it was revealed that urgent action was being taken in the Princes Park area of south Liverpool, with new measures meaning people are advised not to enter each other's homes or stay overnight.

Care home visits, gatherings and events in the ward have also been cancelled.

Today the city council has expanded the areas being targeted with some new measures to include two new wards.

The Picton and Greenbank wards, which neighbour Princes Park, are now being targeted with the specific restrictions around care homes - with no visiting allowed for the time being.

The other measures in place in Princes Park do not currently apply to Picton and Greenbank.

So where are the affected areas?

The council is portioning up the areas where it has taking action along local authority ward lines, but not everyone may know exactly what this means for where they live.

Below are maps and information about the affected areas.

Princes Park

As you would imagine, the ward includes Princes Park, which gives it its name.

Key routes in the area include Princes Road/Avenue and Upper Parliament Street, with the Liverpool Women's Hospital also within the ward boundaries.

Princes Park is surrounded by the wards of Riverside to the west, St Michael's and Greenbank to the south, Picton to the east and Central to the north.

This ward is the heart of Liverpool's current outbreak and where the most severe restrictions are currently in place.

Picton

The Picton ward lies to the east of Princes Park.

It includes areas such as Wavertree Park, Toxteth Park Cemetery and Edge Hill within its boundaries.

The area includes a large section of Smithdown Road.

Picton is currently only being subject to the new restrictions that specifically apply to care homes - with all visiting suspended.

Greenbank

Greenbank is another council ward where some new restrictions have been put in place.

The ward lies directly south of Picton, and is flanked to its left by St Michael's and to its right by the Wavertree council ward.

The ward of course contains the Greenbank Park which gives it its name and also touches on one side of Sefton Park.

Like Picton, Greenbank is currently only being subject to the new restrictions that specifically apply to care homes - with all visiting suspended.
