The ex-Newcastle United striker rubbing shoulders with Suarez and Griezmann in La Liga goal charts

Former Newcastle United striker Joselu is steadily climbing the top goalscorer chart in La Liga.

The 29-year-old left the club shortly after Rafa Benitez's departure in July to sign for Alaves in Spain for a fee of £2.5million.

Since then he has been a big hit in La Liga and, after scoring an equaliser away to Seville at the weekend, he now has nine goals to his name.

Joselu took just 13 matches to score the same six-goal league tally he grabbed in two years for the Magpies after joining from Stoke City.

His poor return resulted in many observers branding him a flop.

But this season he is just two goals behind Barcelona ace Luis Suarez and two more than £107m man Antoine Griezmann.

Speaking about his move Joselu said: “I was sure I wanted to come here and help this club grow.”

Josleu’s career total at Newcastle was just seven goals in 52 matches overall.
