The Evolution Festival in Newcastle and Gateshead 10 years ago: Were you there? Watch our video

Were you among the estimated 60,000 music fans who flocked to the high-profile Evolution Festival in Newcastle and Gateshead 10 years ago?

The Bank Holiday weekend event on Sunday, May 25 and Monday, May 26 took place on Newcastle Quayside and Baltic Stage on Gateshead Quays.

Rapper Dizzee Rascal and The Wombats headlined the main stage at Spillar’s Wharf, taking the top of the bill slot ahead of an impressive support cast which included The Human League, Little Boots, Friendly Fires and White Lies.

There was a Dance Stage in Baltic Square. Highlights on the Gateshead side of proceedings included Boys Noize, Chase & Status Live, Radio 1’s Kissy Sell-out and The Count & Sinden.

A smattering of indoor events, in association with the Jumpin’ Hot Club, whetted the appetites of music lovers - while a mass up-and-comers event called Evolution Unsigned took over Newcastle’s Ouseburn.

On both days, the action ran from midday to 10pm.
