A UK qualifier for the European Shuffleboard Championship is coming to Leeds - and anyone can take part.
UK company SHUFL has announced that Roxy Ballroom on Boar Lane, Leeds city centre, will host one of three UK qualifiers - with the Leeds winner going on to the final.
The championship final will be held in London in November, with 40 contestants doing battle to be crowned European Shuffleboard Champion and to bag the £2,500 prize.
The qualifier will be held at Roxy Ballroom on Thursday, September 19 at 6pm on the bar's 18ft shuffelboard tables.
Joel Mitchell, Roxy brand development manager, said the bar was excited to host the tournament.
He said: "This is great news for Leeds and our shuffleboard player community.
"It gives them the opportunity to play competitively on a European stage and ultimately be crowned European Champion.”
A further two free places at the Championship final are reserved for winners of two other UK regional qualifier tournaments, taking place at the Sports Bar & Grill in Canary Wharf on Septmber 9 and at The Gas Works in Manchester on September 12.
A wildcard entry to the championship will also be decided via a competetition on SHUFL's social media channels.
The European Shuffleboard Championship began in 2013 and has attracted players from across the continent.
This year's event, at BrewDog’s Outpost Tower Hill on November 16, is the first time it has been held in the UK.
Spectators can buy tickets to the championships in London via Eventbrite - tickets cost £50 and include two free drinks, a Brewdog buffer, SHUFL goodies and a 25 per cent drinks discount.
