The Eurobodalla Shire has recorded its first COVID-19 death, with new cases also identified across the South East.

NSW has seen the highest daily number of deaths to 8:00pm last night, with 15 people passing away with COVID-19.

Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said the person who passed away in Batemans Bay was a woman in her 70s who was diagnosed with COVID-19 after her death.

"She had received two doses of the COVID vaccine but had only just received a second dose shortly before her death."

Bega MP Andrew Constance said the death would be felt across the community.

"When I heard this news yesterday my heart sank — my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone," he said.

More cases recorded

It is the first COVID-19 death recorded in the South East since the pandemic began.

The region has also recorded an additional seven COVID-19 cases to 8:00pm last night, including three in the Snowy Monaro region.

Of the new cases, two are in Jindabyne, one is in Cooma, one is in Narooma, one in Dalmeny and two are in Batemans Bay.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard said it was important that anyone with the mildest of symptoms came forward for testing.

"Again, people need to understand the need to be getting tested for any symptoms or if you have been anywhere near this particular person or any of the venues that have been highlighted down there and also get vaccinated."

Southern NSW Local Health said the Jindabyne case worked at Thredbo's ski resort and had been active in the community, including hospitality and retail venues, for six days while infectious.

In a statement, Thredbo Resort said the man had not worked at the resort since September 14.

One of the Jindabyne cases was reported after the 8:00pm cut-off period yesterday and will be officially included in tomorrow's numbers.

Contact tracing is under way.

The Snowy Monaro is currently not in lockdown.

There are now 30 active cases across the South East, with the majority listed in the Batemans Bay area.

New exposure sites

The NSW Southern Local Health District has released additional COVID-19 exposure sites in the Snowy Monaro and Batemans Bay.

Anyone who attended the venues at the times listed on the NSW Health website is considered a casual contact.

They are urged to get tested immediately and isolated until a negative result is received.

Prisoner linked to Batemans Bay outbreak

Mr Constance said the Batemans Bay outbreak was linked to a inmate released from Sydney's Parklea prison, with concerns about the spread among the Indigenous community.

"It did involve an inmate from Parklea, and the advice I got back was that the inmate was at the end of his release period and there had been 14 days of negative results," he said.
