The Erling Haaland media blackout imposed to protect Norway's Euro 2020 bid

Norway have imposed a media blackout on Erling Haaland in a bid to protect their Euro 2020 bid.

The lethal Borussia Dortmund teenager broke a German record this week when he netted his eighth goal in just four games

It's the shortest time any player has taken to reach the tally in the country's domestic football history.

But the Norwegian FA are keen to minimise the hype surrounding the 19-year-old.

They have responded with an unusual demand after insisting to Dortmund that he he does no interviews ahead of their play-off with Serbia in March.

The winners of that game will play Scotland or Israel in the final for a place in the summer tournament, which will see two group games at Hampden Park.

Norwegian FA spokesman Svein Graff said: "Erling prefers to speak with his feet.
"He will fulfill his obligations to TV rights holders, but won't do anything else until a press conference alongside our manager Lars Lagerback to preview the game against Serbia.

"He is one of the hottest strikers in Europe, but he has been inundated with requests for interviews not just from sports media, but also talk shows and other entertainment programmes."

Haaland has already shot down a Scotland team - almost two years ago he scored a hat-trick for Norway in an Under 19s Elite Round match in Germany to help his side win their group in a 5-4 victory.
