The Erling Haaland Manchester United stumbling block that could scupper bumper transfer deal

Manchester United's pursuit of Erling Haaland could be ended by the striker's desire to be the main man at his next club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer currently uses both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in rotation as his number nine and the 19-year-old reportedly wants assurances that he will receive adequate game time despite the big name competition.

United sent chief scout Marcel Bout to watch the prolific, 6ft 4" striker in action against Liverpool on Tuesday night.

And now, the Transfer Window podcast host Ian McGarry is reporting discussions were held regarding a potential move to to Old Trafford.

McGarry said: " Manchester United 's chief scout Marcel Bout watched him last week against Liverpool and I can tell you he then met Erling's father, the former Manchester City striker Alf Inge Haaland to talk about the possibility of a transfer to Old Trafford.

"Things went well except for one major thing - which is game time.

"At the tender age of 19 he has grown accustomed to playing every game and almost every 90 minutes.

"His father specifically asked for assurances in terms of game time, in terms of the pecking order and he wanted assurances with what would happen.

"Bout is not the person to give those assurances however, he played under Solskjaer at Molde and we expect there to be a meeting between the two in the next couple of weeks."
