The epic hill walk with views over Edinburgh and the Lothian coast and a country pub at the end

It's that time of the year when the weather gets good and we have the urge to get out of the city and explore some of the stunning surrounding scenery we are lucky to have around us.

Edinburgh and the Lothians are home to some truly incredible and, we think, underrated locations and walks, with the Pentlands high up in the list of our favourite places to go.

One walk, in particular, offers epic panoramic views back towards Edinburgh, around the Lothians coast, and even out to the imposing Bass Rock.

Lying just half an hour's drive south of Edinburgh and close to the Midlothian Snowsports Centre at Hillend, Caerketton Hill is one of the more intriguing and easily accessible walks you'll find in t he Pentlands.

Though relatively steep to hike up, the views at the top are more than rewarding, with the capital spread out in front of you and Midlothian and the Pentlands around to the sides.

For those of you looking to extend the hike (if the ascent hasn't taken too much out of you) then you can follow the trails to the nearby Allermuir Hill.

Either way, once you are feeling in need of a refuel, you can head down to Biggar Road and the welcoming sight of The Steading Bar and Restaurant with its stunning beer garden surrounded by beautiful scenery.

The bar serves up plenty of great drinks as well as a cracking menu packed with tasty pub fare at pretty good prices, ideal for enjoying outside when the weather is good.
