The England under-21 star who is a risk worth taking for Leeds United

Leeds United have been linked with a move for England under-21 international Keane Lewis-Potter. The Hull City youngster is receiving plenty of interest this summer after a stellar season in the Championship and Leeds have been mentioned as one club keeping an eye on his situation at the MKM Stadium, by iNews.

It is understood that there has no communication between the two clubs or an approach made at this stage, with suggestions of interest believed to be wide of the mark. However, that doesn’t mean that Lewis-Potter isn’t a player Leeds could or should consider in the future, as they look to bolster Jesse Marsch’s squad with talent.

There’s a good chance Leeds will lose Raphinha this summer, with the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea continuing to circle and the versatile Lewis-Potter is exactly the type of player who could be a long-term option on the flank at Elland Road. Of course, his signing would represent something of a risk, as any addition making the leap up from the Championship would, particularly as he has no previous experience of playing in the Premier League.

However, the talent and potential Lewis-Potter has at his disposal makes him a risk worth taking for any Premier League club. He wouldn’t come cheap, though, with Hull owner Acun Ilicali holding out for a sizeable fee for the 21-year-old, who has blossomed over the last two campaigns in East Yorkshire.

Lewis-Potter first broke through into the Tigers’ first-team ranks in 2019 and spent time in the side alongside Jarrod Bowen, who he has been likened to regularly. However, it was during the club’s season in League One that the Hull-born wideman really made his presence felt with 15 goals under Grant McCann.

Another 13 in all competitions last season has cemented him as one of the hottest young talents outside the Premier League, with international honours coming his way this year, too, picking up four caps for England under-21s. It’s not hard to understand what those sides supposedly keeping tabs on him are seeing, either.

Although right footed, Lewis-Potter has spent the majority of his time on Hull’s left edge, cutting in with intent and precision to terrorise defenders and create opportunities. He can shoot from range, racking up 45 attempts from outside the box last season, but he also has a knack of getting himself in the right areas inside the six-yard box, too.

According to Whoscored, he also produced 52 key passes last year, opening up defences and wreaking havoc. His speed and ball control makes him a danger on the counter-attack, an attribute Hull have put to good use on plenty of occasions, while his versatility should also be noted.

Lewis-Potter has experience playing on both the left and right sides of an attacking line, as well as through the middle, and he was even asked to operate as a wing-back last season, a position he took on relatively well. The winger isn’t particularly imposing in stature at 5ft 7in, but as he has become a strong runner of the ball as he matures and develops in the game.

He’s only getting better and better at this stage of his career and Premier League interest is unlikely to go away. Brentford are the team being consistently linked to his signature, while West Ham United and Everton have also been touted as teams interested, however, he has all the attributes to be a success in the white of Leeds, too.
