The End of History... at the Royal Court: First look at Lesley Sharp and David Morrissey in Jack Thorne's new play

The first pictures of David Morrissey and Lesley Sharp in The End of History… have been released.

The new play by Jack Thorne, co-writer of This is England and The Virtues, will open tonight at the Royal Court.

It is set in 1997 and follows left wing couple Sal and David, who are welcoming their grown-up kids back home for the weekend. The oldest is bringing his new girlfriend, the middle daughter is back from Cambridge and the youngest is just out of detention – all of them are named after their parents’ socialist heroes.

Thorne reunites with director John Tiffany for the play, following the global success of their collaboration on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This is their first return to the Royal Court since working together on Hope in 2014, which explored a local Labour council facing funding cuts.

Sharp was recently on the Royal Court stage in Robert Alan Evan’ The Woods, while Morrissey appeared in Hangmen in 2015.

The cast joining them will be Zoe Boyle, Laurie Davidson, Kate O’Flynn and Sam Swainsbury, with design by Grace Smart, lighting by Jack Knowles and sound by Tom Gibbons.

The End of History... will run in the Royal Court’s Downstairs theatre until August 10, royalcourttheatre.com
