The encouraging summer signings injury situation which has now turned around at Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt is pleased to have Amadou Bakayoko back fit and firing and believes Xavier Amaechi has looked 'razor sharp' in training.

The attacking duo were signed by Wanderers in the summer, but have both had limited time out on the pitch owing to injury problems.

Bakayoko has made a dozen appearances and scored four goals so far this season, and has recently returned from an ankle injury.

Hamburg loanee Amaechi meanwhile made his competitive Wanderers debut last Friday coming on as a late substitute in the 2-0 win over Crewe Alex.

He has previously been on the sidelines with a fractured metatarsal picked up in pre-season against Preston North End.

Evatt is pleased to have both players back and available again, which will transform his options in attack and is looking forward to seeing what the duo can do in the weeks to come as he lavished praise on them for their attittudes during their rehab periods.

The Bolton boss said: “We’ve not had him (Bakayoko) in one piece for a while. First and foremost we’re delighted to have him. We know he’s going to improve and we know he’s going to improve with game time and match sharpness.

"If you ask him, he’s still not where he wants to be and where he was earlier on in the season, but he’s suffered two injuries and we’re having to rebuild him again, but his work ethic is first class.

“His fitness levels, considering how much he’s missed is very good.

“I said to the players, I’ve been a footballer a long time even though I’m a young manager, and you have so many highs and lows and it’s really important that you keep yourself level headed and focused and it would have been easy for Xav to feel sorry for himself and throw the toys out of the pram, but his focus and his attitude to rehab has been first class.

“He’s fit, he has looked razor sharp in training considering he’s missed three or four months and only joined in a week and I’m delighted to have him back on the pitch for myself and the team because I know what he can.”
