The enchanted forest perfect for kids right on your doorstep

Spending the day at the park with your little ones can make for the perfect weekend, but what about exploring a hidden fairy village?

Vale Park in New Brighton is home to Fairy Village, an enchanting family garden that is perfect for spending a summer day.

The concept began in 2015, by Major and Sue Mace, a couple who live on the park grounds and were even involved in creating New Brighton’s Black Pearl.

The driftwood forest is situated near the couple’s lodge at the far end of the park, and was created when they decided to repurpose some driftwood left over from the Black Pearl to create a fairy glen.

Since then, the glen has grown into a huge fairy village that attracts visitors from across Merseyside every day.

Ian Shortall, who runs Vale House Community Centre, said: “The fairy village kind of came out of nowhere, Major and Sue put one thing in and before we knew it, people were coming to see it.

“It just sprang up one day, people started adding to its and how it is just a part of the community”.

The fairy village is now home to almost 20 different features, including a troll tree, memory garden, tooth fairy home and even a fairy washing line.

Children from the local community have taken to searching for the elusive magical creatures.

Speaking to the ECHO at the time of opening Sue Mace, co-creator of Fairy Village said: “My husband made a very basic door out of some decking for a tree stump, and we got such a big response that we added a bit more and a bit more.

“We don’t advertise it but you wouldn’t believe how many people are out there, all the little ones looking for fairies, leaving presents for them.

“It’s a bit of fun with local schools and interactive, the children can create their own bits.”

Vale Park is also home to a range of different events throughout the summer, including Jam in the Park, Joy Time, and brass band Sundays.

Vale Park Fairy Village is open all day, seven days a week.
