The empty Bury factory set to become a new fitness suite and cafe

An empty factory on the outskirts of Bury is set to be transformed and brought back into use.

Plans to turn Rayhome House in Walshaw Road near Elton into a fitness studio, cafe and offices have been given the go ahead by the council.

This comes two years after the couple behind the project decided to buy the building.

Jill Oliviero purchased the property with her husband last year and the last business to occupy it, a shim manufacturer, relocated to the Bridge Trading Estate earlier this year.

She said: “For the last 10 months we have attempted to rent it as a home for light manufacturing. During this time we have done a lot of soul searching about whether we are doing the right thing.

“I think the area still needs this a facility like this. We’ve spoken to a lot of businesses.

"With the exception of the two objections received, they have all given their support, saying we do need something in the area.”

The planning committee voted to approve the change of use application at the town hall on Tuesday.
