The Emmerdale favourites fearing the axe from the ITV soap

Soapland can be an unpredictable place and you won’t be too surprised to know actors sometimes get a little worried about what the future holds for their characters.

We’ve delved through some of our recent stories to look at the comings and goings in the ITV soap.

Given she’s involved in a big explosive current storyline we can understand Katherine Dow Blyton having some cause for concern.

As viewers know, the star plays vicar Harriet Finch in Emmerdale and we’ve seen the vicar and Dawn Taylor kill corrupt copper DI Malone. Things are starting to unravel at a fair rate in the village.

"You always worry that your days might be numbered," Katherine, who has been in the soap since 2013, said when she was talking to The Sun.

"There have got to be consequences, whether that happens a year down the line or two years down the line, you can’t get away with murder.

"But I’ll stay for as long as they want me to stay. I love the show and the role; thank heavens for it."

Elsewhere, a long-established fan favourite says he’s still half expecting to receive the chop. Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy Dingle, arguably one of the show’s best-loved characters, has been in the soap for 24 years.

The actor says each winter he always gets a little anxious it might be his last in the fictional village. Although, we don't think he has anything to worry about.

“Every Christmas when the contract is up, I still think that’s probably it,” Dominic, 50, told our colleagues at The Mirror.

“I think that keeps me going, the thought that at any point you could be out. You can’t just wing it, turn up with no ideas.

“So I try hard – but never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have a job this good for so long.”

Obviously, we'll keep you informed of any developments.

In terms of returns, viewers should see some returning characters later this year. Returning from maternity leave will be Michelle Hardwick and Laura Norton who play Vanessa Woodfield and Kerry Wyatt respectively.

We’ll bring you more on their comebacks when we get further details.
