Blackburn Rovers forward Ben Brereton is in line for a shock place at a major international tournament - with Chile.
The Stoke-born striker qualifies for the South American nation as his mother was born there.
The 22-year-old has been to Chile once, as a child, but is set to feature in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia. The Copa America then begins on June 13, with coach Martin Lasarte yet to name his squad for the tournament.
It represents a major landmark in the career of Brereton, who notched seven goals in 43 outings for Rovers last season.
Speaking about his call-up, he said: "It's a real privilege, particularly for my mum's side of the family.
"I've known for quite a while that they were looking at me, but I just kept my head down and wanted to do well for Blackburn Rovers.
"Then just recently they've been in touch with me and my family, to let us know, and we've made the decision that we want to do it and give it my best shot.
"It's a real honour, Chile are a great team to be a part of and my mum and my grandad, and all the family, are very proud.
"It's really special for them. They were all in tears when they found out."
Others also named in the squad include former Manchester United and Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez and Watford's Francisco Sierralta.
