The Edinburgh spot named best value seaside destination in Scotland for a 2023 staycation

With spring arriving, people are already beginning to look at their plans for the summer and with the cost of living crisis, people will want to make their money go further.

Staycations are expected to continue to boom with people travelling across Scotland, and the rest of the UK, for their summer breaks.

However, people in Edinburgh might just have the answer closer to home than they might think, forget the coast around North Berwick or even the East Neuk of Fife, apparently, our very own Porty has just been named the best-value seaside destination for a staycation in Scotland.

The study by holiday accommodation site Independent Cottages looked at the UK seaside resorts that offer the best value for money.

The team analysed which coastal destinations offer the cheapest average staycation property prices as well as the cost of an ice cream cone and fish ‘n’ chip meal in the destination's top-rated establishments – because no one wants a sub-par seaside experience even if they are trying to save some money.

And Portobello topped the Scottish chart, coming 27th in the UK, and beating out the likes of Largs and Oban on the west coast, Dunbar on the east and Nairn in the Highlands.

The team found that Portobello, with its long stretch of golden beach and exciting food and drink businesses, had an average cost of £12.90 for fish and chips, £2.50 for ice cream and £120 for accommodation.

Speaking about the study, Independent Cottages’ CEO Matt Fox said: "The cost of living crisis is continuing to encourage people to tighten their pursestrings and many will be looking for where they can get the best value for money when it comes to holidays this year. Luckily, when it comes to the seaside, we really are spoilt for choice in Britain as it’s home to so many wonderful destinations that can offer a wonderful coastal getaway for every need and budget.”

There you have it, who needs a trip to the islands or highlands when our own Porty could be the answer?
