The Edinburgh Royal Infirmary ICU needs donations of basic toiletries for its patients

A staff nurse from Edinburgh Royal Infirmary 's Intensive Care Unit has taken to Facebook to ask for donations of basic toiletries for the department's patients.

People are now being urged to check the backs of their cupboards for forgotten Christmas bath sets or to consider donating anything they may have extra - the department is specifically looking for soap, shower gel and shampoo.

The post reads: "I was wondering if anyone had any spare toiletries lying around and would be willing to donate them.

"I'm a staff nurse in intensive care down at the Royal and we're in desperate need of basic toiletries for our patients.

"Any help would be greatly appreciated by myself and my amazing team."

At the moment donations can be dropped off to the main reception at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh as all wards are currently closed to the public.
