These Edinburgh Boots stores are closing to redeploy pharmacists amid the coronavirus outbreak

Boots is set to close 60 of its quietest stores and will redeploy pharmacists to its most popular shops amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The high street chain, who sell everything from cosmetics to medicine, have said the worst hit stores, in areas such as airports and retail parks, will be on the list.

This includes stores across UK and here in Edinburgh, with the closures set to be rolled out in two waves.

Edinburgh's 101 Princes Street store will be closed by Wednesday (15 April), as will the Waverly Street Station store.

In a statement Boots said: "We need to make sure that we have enough colleagues playing their vital role where it’s currently most needed and that we can send home those colleagues who are working in stores that are not busy.

"To achieve this, we are temporarily closing a small number of stores that are very quiet at this time."

Boots added it has more than 2,400 branches across the UK and customers can find their nearest ones by visiting Boots.com.

Additional Boots store that have not been listed as set to close include: Boots' West Maitland Street store, North Bridge store and its store on Shandwick Place.
