The early Scottish Cup final date Hearts and Hibs fans should all be aware of

Tens of thousands of Hearts and Hibs fans will head along the M8 next month to watch their clubs do battle for a place in the Scottish Cup final.

Anyone with plans on the weekend 11 and 12 April which don't involve the words 'Edinburgh Derby' and 'semi-final' might want to cancel them.

Both sets of supporters will be desperate to see their club emerge victorious, and secure a spot in the May showpiece.

However there's something different about this year's final fans of the Edinburgh clubs should be aware of.

While the match traditionally draws the curtain on the Scottish football season, in an unusual move this year's final will take place two weeks before the end of the domestic league campaign.

Two rounds of fixtures will still need to be played after the 2020 Scottish Cup final is held on Saturday 9 May. This will actually be the earliest Scottish Cup final in almost 20-years.

The reason? Hampden needs to prepare for the summer's European Championship finals with four matches scheduled to take place at the ground.

The first of which will be on Monday, 15 June with fixtures also being played on Friday, 19 June, Tuesday 23, June and Tuesday, 30 June.

Hearts booked their Scottish Cup semi-final spot with an impressive 1-0 victory over Rangers at Tynecastle, while Hibs thrashed Inverness 5-2 on Friday night to ensure they'd be at Hampden for the last four clash.

Celtic will take on Aberdeen at Hampden in the other semi-final.
