The early favourites for the PGA Championship

PGA Championship

(Stock ID: 2464426119)

With the PGA Championship just a matter of weeks away, the excitement is already building as golf’s finest professionals prepare for the prestigious second major of the year.

While there’s still plenty of golf to be played before the pros descend upon Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina, the early favourites in the golf betting odds are starting to emerge.

From the traditional tour stalwarts to LIV Golf outcasts, the field for the PGA Championship promises to be as competitive as ever.

But who will rise to the occasion at Quail Hollow and stake their claim for the sought-after Wanamaker Trophy? Let’s take a look at the early frontrunners.

Scottie Scheffler – 5/1

No surprises here, as Scottie Scheffler is the outright favourite to win the PGA Championship with odds of 5/1.

The World No.1 missed the start of the season after suffering a hand injury while cooking Christmas dinner, and it appears to still be impacting his standard of play, as he’s yet to win this campaign.

However, he’s been as consistent as ever—making the cut in all of his starts, registering three top 10 finished and finishing just a stroke behind Min Woo Lee in the Houston Open.

Despite his lack of silverware this year, you certainly wouldn’t rule out the dual Masters winner from adding the PGA Championship to his resume.

Rory McIlroy – 7/1

McIlroy ended his 14-year major drought when winning his first Masters recently, marking a legendary career Grand Slam, and he will be hoping to continue his fine form here.

The Northern Irishman also has two PGA Tour wins this year, beating his close friend Shane Lowry in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am before landing his second Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

What’s also notable is McIlroy—a two-time winner of the PGA Championship—has a fantastic record around Quail Hollow, winning the annual Wells Fargo a record four times.

The most recent of those triumphs was just 12 months ago when the 35-year-old beat Xander Schauffele by a commanding five strokes.

Xander Schauffele – 12/1

Coming in at seemingly good value with odds of 12/1, Xander Schauffele made major breakthroughs last season and will arrive at Quail Hollow in possession of the Wanamaker Trophy.

The 31-year-old beat Bryson DeChambeau by a single stroke at Valhalla last year to break his drought in the sport’s big four tournaments, and he followed up in style when doubling his tally in The Open.

Schauffele missed a couple of months of this season with a rib injury, playing just four times prior to the recent Masters as he returned to action at the Arnold Palmer in March.

His form in his first couple of competitions back left a bit to be desired, but he finished just outside the tied for eighth in the Masters and could be rediscovering his best golf going into this.

The ever-consistent Jon Rahm can’t be ruled out at 14/1, while five-time major winner and three-time PGA Championship victor Brooks Koepka is an option at 16/1.
