The earliest Rangers can win the title as Celtic slip brings long awaited party into view

It's been clear for months that Rangers are going to win the title, with the focus in recent weeks switching to when they'll seal it.

The nightmare scenario for Celtic is that 10 In A Row is officially stopped on their own patch on March 21.

That prospect is very much a reality for Steven Gerrard's squad, who would only need a Parkhead point if they win their two matches before then.

However, Celtic's defeat to Ross County means that Rangers could actually seal it before that.

Seven points will get it done, but that doesn't necessarily have to be two wins and a draw.

If Celtic lose to Aberdeen and Rangers beat Livingston a few days later the gap would be 21 points with seven games to play.

And that would mean taking just a point at home to St Mirren on March 6 would ensure the Ibrox club can't be caught.

That would make them the earliest title winners in a full season, with the previous record being March 16 as Bill Struth's team won it in 1928-29.

Celtic took the title on March 26 2014, while Brendan Rodgers' invincibles had to wait until April 2 in the 2016-17 campaign.
