The earliest Celtic could be crowned champions ahead of Rangers derby

It feels like it's only a matter of time before Celtic clinch the Premiership title.

The Hoops have been in brilliant form since the winter break and have created a 13 point gap at the top of the table.

Rangers, meanwhile, have struggled massively with defeats to Hamilton and Kilmarnock and dropping points against Aberdeeen and St Johnstone.

Regardless of the result this weekend as the rivals go head to head, it's a tall order for Steven Gerrard's men to claw back the deficit.

But a win for Celtic would be another step towards that elusive nine in a row.

So when is the earliest the champions can make it official? Fans will be keen to mark the potential dates in their diaries.

Presuming Rangers win their game in hand against St Johnstone and Celtic were to win all their remaining games before the split (including the derby against the Light Blues), they would enter matchday 34 with a 13 point lead, with 15 points on offer.

That means, as it stands, they could be crowned on the second fixture after the split, the weekend beginning April 25 on matchday 35.

But we all know there has been plenty of twists and turns in the title race so if Rangers lose more ground, the title could be Celtic's even sooner.

Or if Gerrard's men win the Glasgow derby on Sunday, they will at least be able to prolong their rival's title celebrations.
