The Dwayne Haskins to Terry McLaurin connection is creating big expectations

The Washington Redskins weren’t trying to hide what they were doing when pairing Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins with one of his favorite collegiate weapons, Terry McLaurin.

Just look at the above from Pro Football Focus: the two had a combined 153.8 rating, one of the best-ever marks in this area since 2014.

Also consider this from Daniel Rymer:

…they picked up huge chunks of yardage, which is evidenced by McLaurin’s average of 19.3 yards per reception when targeted by Haskins — 41st out of 957 qualifying pairings between quarterback and receiver since 2014. Among the 40 pairings who rank higher in yards per reception, Haskins and McLaurin actually have the best catch rate (72%).

Undoubtedly, the Redskins had access to plenty of advanced metrics like this that ended up playing a big role in getting McLaurin.

On paper before the season the idea is simply brilliant. Wideout is one of the Redskins’ bigger problems as of late with nobody, from free-agent adds to first-round picks, stepping up.

So why not go get a guy who helped the potential franchise quarterback put up great numbers in college? The budding hype isn’t hard to understand, especially once the numbers make their way public.
