The dressing room inquest following Newcastle United's draw with Wolves amid rising relegation fears

Andy Carroll has revealed Newcastle United's squad held a dressing room inquest following their draw to Wolves amid rising relegation fears.

The Magpies looked to be on course to extend their cushion over the relegation zone to six points following Jamaal Lascelles' header on Saturday night.

However, the hosts' advantage was cancelled out by Ruben Neves and Steve Bruce's side had Martin Dubravka to thank for a stunning injury-time save in their 1-1 draw.

The communications breakdown following Matt Ritchie's subtitution for the equaliser was laid bare in an analysis segment by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

Lascelles admitted in a post-match interview that he was 'not sure' what had happened in the build-up to Neves' header, and would be raising it in the dressing room.

Carroll - who was an unused substitute on Saturday night - admits the squad were disappointed by the circumstances of their latest draw with Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

However, the 32-year-old insists the team remain united despite their current predicament and are ready to respond at relegation rivals West Brom on Sunday.

Carroll told NUFC TV: "We were disappointed against Wolves that we didn't get a result. After that, the lads had a chat after the game and we need to stick together.

"That's exactly what we're doing, and we came out today and training was positive. As soon as we go back in, we'll concentrate on West Brom at the weekend. "

Newcastle's performances have improved in recent weeks following a change in system, but it is now just two wins in the last 17 matches for under-fire head coach Steve Bruce.

Carroll believes the team have been 'playing well', and are only lacking a clinical edge he hopes they can show at the Hawthorns.

The striker added: "We played well against Wolves, and we played well against Man United.

"We should have probably got something and we didn't. We have been creating a lot of chances, getting a lot of balls in the box and a lot of shots.

"We just haven't converted, and it will come. If it's this weekend, it's going to be great."
