‘The dream’ - Manchester United fans go wild as Sir Jim Ratcliffe reveals takeover plans

Manchester United supporters have ecstatically welcomed the news that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wishes to buy the club.

The Times says the billionaire would be interesting in buying a minority stake in United with a view to eventually taking full ownership. A spokesperson for the Ineos chairman said he would be interested in a takeover if the club is put up for sale.

Ratcliffe - who already owns French club Nice - would like to talk to the Glazers about the idea. His investment plans would include a revamp of Old Trafford, with proposals for this under the current owners already in phase.

Ratcliffe, a United fan, unsuccessfully attempted to buy Chelsea in May and is seemingly now turning his attention north. Fans have long protested about the running of United by the Glazers, with a protest set to be held in Monday’s Old Trafford meeting with Liverpool.

And many took to Twitter to relay their excitement when they learnt about Ratcliffe’s interest. Some said his arrival would "save" the club.
