The drastic Motherwell action as Aaron Chapman gets creative to combat the wild weather

Motherwell keeper Aaron Chapman has been forced to think outside the box when clearing his lines against Livingston.

Press Association reporter Gavin McCafferty noted the Steelmen keeper was taking no chances with the elements wreaking havoc by throwing the ball clear rather than kicking it.

It proves how treacherous the conditions are as the Tony Macaroni Arena is one of the few stadiums in Scottish football that is closed in at all four corners.

The 30-year-old has been forced to chucking it long with his hands rather than risking throwing it into the air and allowing the wind to take the ball from his toe.

McCafferty said: Motherwell goalkeeper "Aaron Chapman just threw the ball halfway into the Livingston half rather than kick from his hands with the wind at his back."

Chapman is no doubt being extra cautious as he looks to state his claim as a key man under Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson with Trevor Carson on the sidelines.

Scottish football has always been a hostage to the elements and the wild weather has teams up and down the country facing a dilemma on how to deal with it.

And the Premiership clash in West Lothian is benefiting from the plastic pitch as the rain is being washed away instantly from the top of the surface.
