The dramatic moment a man is Tasered by police as he tries to hurl a microwave at them

Police have released footage of a man who was Tasered as he threatened police officers with a microwave.

Nathan Caine, 25, has been jailed for four months for the incident at the YMCA in Cardiff last month.

Police were there because they had been called to reports of an assault.

The video shows that despite a number of requests to put the oven down he continued to threaten the officers.

As he puts the microwave above his head to throw it at them, he is hit by a Taser and falls to the ground.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "It was necessary to discharge a Taser, ensuring the safety of officers and members of the public."

He was later jailed at Cardiff Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to assault, criminal damage and using threatening words or behaviour.

Chief Constable Matt Jukes said: "Police officers are people not punch bags."

Earlier this week it was announced that South Wales Police will receive more than £273,000 to fund 331 Tasers.

Mr Jukes said: "Equipping officers to be able to protect themselves, their colleagues and, importantly, the public, is a priority. This increase is not in response to a specific threat, but the nature of policing means officers frequently put themselves in harm’s way."
