The Dough Thrower submits plans to open pizza restaurant on Whitchurch Road

A popular Cardiff pizza restaurant has submitted plans to open a second site in the city.

The Dough Thrower, opposite Victoria Park in Canton, has submitted plans to Cardiff Council to open a second site on Whitchurch Road.

Asbri Planning submitted plans on behalf of the eatery to take over the site of a nail salon currently located on the road.

The restaurant opened its Cowbridge Road East site in 2017, with a menu offering classic toppings such as Margherita and pepperoni, as well as more unusual options like the 'Funghi of the Forest' - a white garlic base cheese sauce with mushrooms drizzled in truffle oil - or the 'Philly Cheesesteak' - a four Swiss cheese sauce with 24 hour slow-cooked beef brisket and caramelised red peppers.

Geraint Thomas and George North chose the restaurant as the place to tuck in after the Tour de France cyclist celebrated his Cardiff homecoming.

The restaurant has applied to change the use of the ground floor of the building from a salon to a food and drink unit.

If granted permission to open the Whitchurch Road site, the restaurant would join the likes of Brother Thai, Alex Gooch, Vivo Amigo, and Waterloo Tea.
