"The door is open" - Arsenal defender drops hint on future ahead of summer transfer window

Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has opened up on his future amid a loan spell in Germany.

The Greek centre-back is spending this season with Stuttgart, his second loan spell since arriving in North London from PAS Giannina in 2018 having spent time on loan with Nurnberg last season.

Mavropanos is still only 23 years of age, but it seems he is way down the pecking order at Arsenal, who may strengthen at centre-back again this summer despite the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes last summer.

William Saliba is also likely to be ahead of Mavropanos, who may need to look elsewhere for more regular football, as he has for the last two seasons.

And the Greece international seems to be open to a permanent move to Stuttgart where he has made 17 league appearances so far this season, helping his side to ninth in Bundesliga.

Speaking to Bild, Mavropanos said: "I can’t say that at the moment (whether I will return). Things can change quickly in football.

"I still have two months here in Stuttgart and would like to end the season with the team as high up as possible.

"The door at VfB is open for me – that’s very good. But I can only really think about the future once we have talks with for the new season."

Mavropanos is under contract at Arsenal until 2023, but if he is still not part of Mikel Arteta's plans ahead of next season, he may well be sold to make room for another centre-back ahead of next season.

The 23-year-old is valued at around £5million currently, and it's believed Arsenal spent less than £2million to secure his signature in 2018 when he was signed as a promising youngster.
