The Dolphins are three score underdogs vs. Chargers in Week 4

One of these weeks, the Dolphins are going to mess around and get a close ball game in the 4th quarter. The latest odds from BetMGM for Week 4 suggest this weekend’s contest against the Los Angeles Chargers won’t be the game. No, the Dolphins will enter their third home game of the season as three score underdogs to the Chargers — despite the Chargers’ underwhelming 1-2 record to this point in the season.

And, logically, it makes sense. The 16.5 point line would indicate that the Chargers are going to come into South Florida focused — which they will need to be with their season on the fringe of getting off the rails. This would-be Super Bowl contender can hardly afford to fly across the country and drop a game to these Miami Dolphins, it would be an inexcusable failure in focus and execution on the Chargers’ part.

The Dolphins, as they have been in each of their first three games, are at a significant talent deficit against the Chargers — enough to more than melt away the favorable factors for a game in Miami. The Dolphins have a time zone advantage of several hours and will wear their home whites, forcing the Chargers to wear colored jerseys in the South Florida sun and humidity.

Don’t bet on those factors to chip away and put Miami into a situation to potentially cause an upset, though. The Chargers have a fierce pass rush which should keep QB Josh Rosen unsettled for stretches of the game — and the Chargers have too many weapons at their disposal for Miami to realistically hope to contain them for 60 minutes. If the Dolphins had Laremy Tunsil, Minkah Fitzpatrick and several of the other recently departed talents, this might be a recipe for an upset — but not these Dolphins.
