The DIY market is seeing a boost during lockdown

Nearly three out of four homeowners across the UK are or will use the extra time they have during lockdown to make home improvements, research suggests.

With popular DIY stores opening back up this weekend could see even more people heading out to stock up on materials for home renovation.

The research form  confused.com  suggests that the average spend is £200 but almost one in ten (nine per cent) is planning on spending £500.

More than half (54 per cent) are doing their bit of DIY in the garden, taking on painting fences and laying decking.

But more often people are planning to improve their interiors, as two thirds (65 per cent) of homeowners plan on painting and decorating.

However, there are some taking on major tasks, the research suggests, one in ten dong plastering or floor laying.

While nearly the same proportion (nine per cent) are attempting to fit a new kitchen or bathroom during lockdown, with hopes of adding just more than £1,500 to the value of their home on average.

But things have not always been gong to pan with almost half (47 per cent) of those surveyed saying they have experienced mishaps doing DIY.
