Gina Carano was fired from the show The Mandalorian and her subsequent spin-off after controversial social media posts. It is a company’s right to fire an employee for public posts but that’s neither here or there. Carano sued Disney, thanks to Elon Musk, and the two reached a resolution.
Disney and Carano came to an agreement outside of court and Disney shared a statement to Variety about the lawsuit. “The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”
Originally, Carano reportedly said she wanted it stated that she would be allowed back as Cara Dune in the Star Wars franchise. Whether or not that was part of their agreement is not clear but Disney did stated that they would look for “opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”
Carano herself posted on X, which both caused this issue in the first place and helped her get funded by Musk, about the agreement. “I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm … which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force,” she wrote. She went on to thank Musk for backing the case and to her lawyers who “walked me through this unknown territory, thank you for your wisdom and guidance.”
This settlement isn’t surprising but still doesn’t feel great

Settling with Carano was always going to be the end goal of this case, whether Disney wanted it thrown out or not. Because heading to court for something like this is tricky and unnecessary. She laid out what she wanted and Disney responded. Both of their statements kept the Cara Dune of it all quiet so we don’t know whether or not that is still on the table but the two parties reaching an agreement out of court is what this was always going to be.
Doesn’t mean it isn’t upsetting given the things that Carano did on social media. She posted transphobic remarks, reportedly refused to engage with Disney attempting to educate her on why that was harmful, and hard pivoted into right-wing conspiracies and spaces as a way of making money outside the Mouse. Now she’s trying to get back into their good graces?
Whatever happens with Carano’s Disney career moving forward, this is done for now and that’s a good thing unless she rolls back into Star Wars with her stiff acting.
