The disgusting sight which faced a shopper using a popular Swansea city centre car park

A shopper has described her shock at discovering dirty drug needles and blood in the stairwells to exit one of Swansea's most popular car parks.

Sophie Meredith parked at the Quadrant multi-storey car park on Tuesday, and when leaving to head into the city, she couldn't believe the sights that greeted her.

She found various pieces of drug paraphernalia in the stairwell, some bloodied cloth, and discarded used needles.

When she decided to turn around and use another exit, she found a similar unpleasant scene in that stairwell.

"This is disgusting," she said.

"Families use this car park, what if a child fell on a needle?

"There's blood splatters on the floor as well as discarded needles, bloodied cloth and spoons.

"Why are these people allowed to do this? And can they not even clean up their mess?"

A spokesman for Swansea Council, which runs the car park, said: "Our car parking attendants monitor stairwells in our multi-storey car parks on a daily basis and will work closely with our cleansing teams to ensure drug litter is removed immediately.

"We would also urge the public to report instances of drug litter in public places to the council when they discover it so it can be removed quickly and safely."

Swansea Council's website advises: "Needles and syringes should be disposed of safely using a sharps box. If you find a syringe or needle in a public area then do not touch it but report it to us as soon as possible. We will then have it removed safely."

If you wish to report the finding of a syringe to the authority, visit this website.

You can fill in a form, specifying your details, the location of the syringe and upload a picture.
