The disgusting conditions that inspectors found at an Oldham takeaway

These are the filthy conditions food hygiene inspectors discovered at a takeaway in Oldham .

Cockroaches, mouse droppings, food debris and thick grease were found at Montana Fried Chicken in Yorkshire Street.

Environmental Health officers from Oldham Council said there were 'insufficient procedures' to control pests at the food business.

The inspection, carried out in March last year, found Montana was not being cleaned to 'an adequate standard'.

Food debris and grease were also found on takeaway equipment.

But the boss of the takeaway claims conditions have improved since the council last inspected the takeaway.

Man, 21, arrested after violent incidents during meet-ups on gay dating app Grindr

Nzar Hassan, director of Montana Fried Chicken Limited, has been prosecuted for breaching food safety laws.

Mr Hassan, appearing on behalf of the takeaway company, pleaded guilty to three offences under the Food Safety Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 at Tameside Magistrates’ Court on March 21.

The company was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay contribution costs of £400 plus a victim surcharge of £170, paying an overall total of £2,570.

Mr Hassan was fined £416 and ordered to pay contribution costs of £400 plus a victim surcharge of £42, making a total £858.

Helen Lockwood, Deputy Chief Executive of Oldham Council, said: “As a council we are committed to ensuring businesses are complying with food hygiene laws and we have prosecuted a number of businesses that have failed to meet these standards.

“Many of the food businesses in the borough – 93 per cent - have a food hygiene rating of 3 or above. Unfortunately a small percentage of business owners are still not meeting the standards.

“This small minority of businesses need to keep their premises clean and not wait until our officers have visited to make the necessary changes.”

Mr Hassan, speaking to the M.E.N., said: "The shop is very, very different now.

"The council gave us a three-star rating in October but we think we deserve a four-star now.

"We've recommended that they come back and inspect us again but they haven't come back to do another inspection.

"Things have changed since last year. I have a new team and a new manager.

"Our customers know that our takeaway is clean.

"If the council see this message, come back to check again."
