The 'dilation pumpkins' made by Oldham midwives are going viral again

A few years ago midwives at the Royal Oldham Hospital created 'dilation pumpkins' - and this Halloween they're going viral all over again - and it's all because of one Tweet.

Dr Lindsey Fitzharris, who is a medical historian at the University of Oxford, shared the photograph to her over 100K followers.

She said: "A few years ago, midwives at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Lancashire created "dilation pumpkins" - and I don't think I've ever seen anything scarier in my life."

In the Tweet, which now has over 10K likes, she also apologised to 'anyone who is pregnant' with a crying-laughing face.

Other people chipped in with their responses to the pumpkins created by The Royal Oldham Hospital Triage and Day Ward Midwives.

Nesta Thomas said: "OMG, I've had two children, but those pumpkins are so terrifying."

One user, however, said that the pumpkin's faces aren't terrifying enough for what she went through.

Jonté's Inferno said: "23 years ago I went from two to 10 centimetres in 45 minutes, without anesthetic. Those pumpkins don't look nearly terrified enough."

But some people in the replies were blown away with what the human body could do - rather than just being scared by the pumpkin's faces.

Jayne Bartlett said: "How fantastic are women's bodies that they can cope with this without anaesthetic?"
