The Didsbury dream house in Netflix's The Stranger

Netflix's latest drama The Stranger has viewers at the edge of their seats, but it also has local fans trying to spot all of the filming locations in Greater Manchester.

Stockport train station is an easy one, and a number realise that Bolton Magistrates' Court acts as the police station, but what's really drawing attention is the Price's 'unreal' family home.

While Manchester's Northern Quarter is often transformed into a film set, with Peaky Blinders and most recently The Crown shot in the area, it's less common for a hit thriller to be filmed across the region.

But residential areas, in the south of Manchester in particular, are becoming more prominent in TV productions, with BBC One's Years and Years showcasing a trendy terrace in Levenshulme, and leafy Didsbury taking centre stage in Harlan Coben’s thriller, The Stranger.

In the eight-part series, a father of two boys, Adam Price, played by The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage, sees his idyllic life turned upside down when a mysterious woman comes to him to reveal a secret about his wife Corinne, played by Dervla Kirwan.

The family are depicted living in the 4,500sqft, detached Grade II-listed property on Didsbury Park, off Wilmslow Road, named Park End House.

Viewers have been discussing their envy over the house on and offline, with one social media user posting on Twitter: "Watched the first episode of #TheStranger on Netflix tonight and my main takeaway is that their house is unreal!"

Another posted: "Just started #thestranger on Netflix. Can we start with wow what a house!" while a another said: "#TheStranger on Netflix. Gripping but prepare yourself for some serious house porn."

The description on British Listed Buildings says the property dates back to the mid to late 19th century, with red brick in Flemish bond and sandstone dressings.

According to property website Zoopla the house sold for £1.2m in 2010, and £1.275m in 2007.

Zoopla, says Didsbury Park has 58 houses and flats on it, with an average current value of £565,657, compared to an average value of £344,602 for M20.
