Singer Anne-Marie has written a “strong” and “powerful” anthem celebrating women, which she says pretty much summarises the snub of female artists at this year’s BRIT Awards.
Last year the singer, left, was nominated for four awards, and she is “p***ed off” no women feature in this year’s Album of the Year and Best Group categories.
“It does p*** me off,” she tells the Mirror. “There’s Mabel and all these women who are amazing coming from the UK.
“I just don’t get how they could do that and think that this isn’t going to cause controversy?
“It’s just confusing to me. Why would you not want to celebrate people’s success?”
Singer/songwriter Mabel, 23, is up for three awards, but failed to land a nomination in the Album of the Year category.
As Anne-Marie, 28, prepares to release her second album, she reveals one of her new tracks is about supporting women in male dominated industries.
“I have women all around me,” she says. “This song possibly just describes the BRITs right now. It’s a very strong, powerful girl song, without trying to sound preachy.”
Another Best British Female nominee, Charli XCX, 27, said last week: “Women don’t just deserve to be in the female categories, we’re not the subplot, the warm-up act, we’re the main event.”
