The Devin Haney – George Kambosos Jr. fight will be great if it’s as entertaining as its lead-up

The lead-up to George Kambosos Jr. vs. Devin Haney has been nothing short of amusing.

The fight, slated for Saturday, June 4th, will take place in Kambosos Jr.’s home country of Australia, giving him a slight advantage over Haney before the two actually throw punches. The advantage was nearly even bigger as recently as a few days ago when it was known that Bill Haney (Devin’s father and trainer) was denied access to Australia due to a criminal investigation in the states that took place in 1992.

But in the days before the big fight, the Australian government granted Bill Haney a temporary visa to attend Melbourne and be in his son’s corner.

He arrived in Melbourne hours before the fight.

There was more to talk about the following day, however. This time, on Kambosos Jr.’s side.

Kambosos took the scale on the official weigh-in day and weighed in at 135.36 pounds, failing to initially make weight the day before the fight. Much to the delight of Devin Haney, he approached Kambosos and exchanged words with the Australian fighter.

Here’s what Haney had to say after:

Kambosos Jr. was given two hours to figure it out before weighing in again for the second and final time, with the potential that another missed weight would eliminate him from being able to fight for championship belts.

However, the Australian fighter did make weight at the second weigh-in, and he claims perhaps the eventful day was the “art of war” and “deception.”

Nevertheless, the bout is set and all the belts are on the line.
