After years of whispers, rumours and wishful thinking, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is finally real. The first trailer for the sequel to the 2006 fashion-world classic has dropped, reuniting Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci in the glossy, high-heeled chaos of Runway magazine.
The 52-second teaser, released to mark Hathaway’s 43rd birthday, opens exactly as fans would hope, with a pair of red stilettos clacking down a marble hallway as nervous assistants scatter.
The camera pans up to reveal Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly, every inch the imperious editor, her trademark white bob perfectly in place. The sequence plays out to Madonna’s Vogue, an inspired nod to both fashion and pop history.
Moments later, as Miranda steps into a lift, Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs slides in at the last second, now polished, powerful and entirely unrecognisable from the nervous assistant of twenty years ago. “Miranda,” Andy greets her coolly. Miranda looks her up and down and deadpans, “Took you long enough.” Cue the internet combusting.
What fans are saying
The reaction has been euphoric. “This is my Super Bowl,” wrote one user, while another declared, “The Devil Wears Prada evolution from 2006 to 2026 omg.” Others pointed out that the film’s release coincides with the first week of May 2026, the same week as the Met Gala. “This releasing the same week as the Met Gala is so on point,” one post read.
Fashion Twitter was equally approving of the trailer’s soundtrack choice. “Opening to Vogue by Madonna? They understood the assignment,” said another fan.
Within minutes of the trailer’s release, they flooded X and TikTok declaring it “my Avengers Endgame” and “the sequel of the century.” One viewer joked, “The theatre employees are scared and asking me to leave because The Devil Wears Prada 2 isn’t out yet, but I’m simply too seated.” Another wrote, “As a culture, we have an enormous amount riding on the quality of this.”
Who’s in it?
The original line-up, Streep, Hathaway, Blunt and Tucci, are all back, joined once again by director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna. The newcomers include Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley, Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney, and The Office’s B.J. Novak.
Eagle-eyed fans also spotted Lady Gaga on set earlier this year, sparking rumours of a cameo. Meanwhile, Streep and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour were recently photographed front row at a fashion show, a possible meta tie-in, given Wintour famously inspired Priestly’s character.
So what does happens in the trailer?
The teaser doesn’t give away much beyond that elevator reunion, but it does confirm Miranda is still the reigning terror of fashion publishing. Reports suggest the sequel follows her as she battles the decline of print and must make an uneasy alliance with Blunt’s Emily Charlton, now a powerful executive at a luxury conglomerate controlling Runway’s ad revenue.

In a brief credit montage, viewers noticed another smart detail: the billing now lists Streep and Hathaway as “Academy Award winners,” and Blunt and Tucci as “Academy Award nominees,” a quiet nod to how far the film’s cast have come since 2006.
When it’s out
The film lands in cinemas on 1 May 2026, under the tagline, “A sequel? For spring? Groundbreaking.”
If the trailer’s mix of nostalgia, polish and self-awareness is any indication, The Devil Wears Prada 2 looks ready to reclaim its crown as fashion’s sharpest satire. And judging by the reaction, the fans are already seated side stage.
