The Devil's Fuge: Music meets art at new Covent Garden pop-up

Music and art come together in a new West End pop-up gallery opening today.

Work by graffiti artist Eine, photographer Mick Rock and singer-turned painter Leah Wood will be for sale at The Devil’s Fuge in Covent Garden.

Among them are two pictures by Rock - known for his portraits of chart royalty - with one showing Blondie singer Debbie Harry and another of David Bowie taken in 2002.

Wood’s paintings include images of endangered species such as polar bears, tigers and butterflies, which are partly inspired by her environmental work,

She said: “I love animals in general and wanted to raise awareness for these beautiful animals, they are part of our planet and at the moment the planet needs us.

“I work a lot with saving the rainforest with Cool Earth the charity, and as human beings I think we should be doing a lot more to save the world.

"We’ve made a start with plastics, but we can do a whole lot more.”

Wood, the daughter of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie, has been painting professionally for three years and uses a mixture of acrylic paint, glue, chalk and plastic wrapping in her work to “raise a point”.

She said: “The animals are endangered and some of them are endangered due to the plastic waste in the oceans. As we all know by now these plastics will never wash away and are washed up on beaches around the world and in some awful cases suffocate our marine life.”

The gallery is a collaboration between art consultants West Contemporary and vegan skincare brand ALBIVA.

December 12-24, Basement, 18 Floral Street, WC2E 9DS, https://www.west-contemporary.com/
