The destinations Ryanair and EasyJet are flying to in July - including from Bristol and Cardiff

Quarantine-free travel between Britain and some countries could be introduced at the end of this month if infection rates at home and abroad are sufficiently low.

The Government is understood to be considering so-called "air bridges" to enable people to travel without having to spend two weeks self-isolating on their return.

Current plans mean all international arrivals - apart from people carrying out a limited number of specified roles - would need to quarantine for 14 days from Monday.

The plan has been fiercely criticised by travel and hospitality businesses, and ministers are understood to be considering introducing air bridges when the policy is reviewed three weeks after it comes into force.

Agreements would need to be reached with other countries before any policy could be introduced.

Further details of the quarantine proposal are expected to be laid before Parliament on Tuesday, but many airlines are preparing to resume travel in June and July.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is still urging the public not to travel abroad, but parts of Europe begin preparing to reopen their borders, beaches and tourism industries to foreign tourists.

So if flights from major UK airports do resume and we can travel abroad next without being subject to quarantine, where will we be able to go?

The budget airline has been operating an extremely limited schedule of flights during the pandemic but said it is planning to resume 40% of its "normal flight schedules" in July - though subject to government restrictions and the implementation of health measures.

All passengers and cabin crew will be required to wear face masks while on the plane and in the terminal buildings.

The Irish firm will be offering up to 1,000 daily flights which will be operated out of 19 airports in the UK - including from Cardiff and Bristol.

In a statement released recently, CEO Eddie Wilson welcomed the news of other European countries preparing to remove travel restrictions and scrap mandatory quarantines.

He is extremely hopeful and said that it means holidaymakers in the UK "can now look forward to booking their much needed family holiday" to Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, and other Mediterranean destinations, for July and August.

As reported by the Mirror, flights from the UK will be available to the following destinations from the start of July:

  • Austria
  • Bulgaria
  • Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Estonia
  • Greece
  • Germany
  • Hungary
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Luxemborg
  • Malta
  • Montenegro
  • Morocco
  • The Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Sweden

It's important to note that not all of these countries will be on offer from all UK airports, at least not initially.

Destinations from Cardiff with RyanAir include Barcelona, Faro, Malaga, Malta and Tenerife, but when you go to book any it says that no flights are yet planned.

The same is for flights to various destinations like Bologna and Alicante from Bristol airport.

Anyone travelling with Ryanair this summer will of course be subject to new rules implemented by the airline in light of social distancing measures promoted by the government.

This includes all passengers and crew being required to wear face masks, temperature checks and queueing for the toilet not being permitted onboard flights.

Easyjet

Face mask covers inspired by comic books will be handed to child passengers in a bid to ease anxiety about an airline's new flight rules.

EasyJet announced it is to make thousands of the items available on selected routes when it restarts its operations on June 15.
The covers feature lion and pilot designs, and are to be worn over the top of a young traveller's own face mask.

EasyJet's requirement to wear a face mask in airports and on aircraft is part of a series of new safety and hygiene measures which will come into force once it resumes flights.

There will be no food sold during flights, enhanced cleaning of planes, and disinfection wipes and hand sanitiser provided.

It was reported earlier this week that a limited number of flights will be on offer from mid-June - from over 22 airports in Europe.

The majority of these initial flights however will be domestic for passengers in the UK, who can travel between airports in the country - including being able to fly from Bristol to Belfast.

EasyJet will offer just one international route from the UK - between London Gatwick and Nice in France.

This is the full list of Easyjet flights that will run from 15 June:

TUI

TUI is planning to resume flights across Europe within the few months - though it has said it will "continuously review" the situation.

The airline had previously eyed up June 12 as the date it would resume a limited number of flights, though this has since been pushed back until July, as revealed by the Mirror.

Destinations set to be on offer during the initial return of services were Germany, Bulgaria and Iceland.

The TUI website however suggests that a wider variety of holidays will be available in July - including across Europe.
