The dedicated new craft ale shop and bar that's opened in Mumbles

Ale lovers rejoice! A dedicated new shop and bar has opened in Mumbles which will allow beer enthusiasts to try some of the finest brews locally and nationally.

Chris Bidder and a business partner launched brand new business MumbAles along Newton Road last Friday, which is a dedicated retail and delivery craft ale shop selling a variety of craft ale, IPA, cider and wines. It works as a hybrid of a retail shop, a small outdoor bar and a takeaway service.

The most unique aspect of the bar is the takeaway draught growlers which will be on offer. A growler is a stainless steel bottle used to transport draft beer, and once it has been purchased for £10, can be taken to and from the venue to be filled up with fresh draught beer from four different pumps, with selection changing regularly.

MumbAles is the latest new arrival in Mumbles, which has seen a fair bit of activity over the last year, and there's more to come soon. You can read all about that by clicking here. Mr Bidder explained how the idea had been two years in the making.

He said: "It was about getting the right property. Along Newton Road you get countless cars and people going past every day so it is the perfect spot for it.

"We've got five different style growlers. You can come down, get a fresh pint, and then bring it back the next day and try something different. We've got five different beers on tap and they will alternate. People, at the moment, don't want to drink in bars, so this is a gap in the market where people can come and get a fresh pint in an old style growler and take it away to enjoy at home or at a barbecue. We've got four draught options on the go at the moment and we would encourage local brewers to bring stuff in. There will always be a good variety of craft ales and IPA. We've done a lot of work with Tiny Rebel. In the shop we have got a big selection of cans and bottles.

"We're trying to get people talking again, and for those who want to sit and have a pint we've got a talking corner where people can sit and have a chat and a pint with it. It is very much an old school bar/ off licence feel. It's simple."

The new venture is off to a great start, and those behind it already have their eyes on expanding to other locations elsewhere in Swansea, and other Welsh hotspots.

"It's going great so far, we've had a mixed bag of people visiting like students, a lot of women too. It's surprising how much ale attracts all different age groups," Mr Bidder said.

"We're launching a home delivery service, and we're also looking at expanding into places like Uplands, the Marina, Tenby and Cowbridge."
