The December general election date has inspired brilliant Love Actually-themed posts

Love Actually Prime Minister US President News Conference Hugh Grant

It's official: A pre-Christmas election is happening and Britons are set to go to the polls on Thursday, December 12.

But while many people are groaning at the thought of another election, others have pointed out that life is truly imitating art.

Yes, really. 2019 has turned into…Love Actually.

With the election date confirmed, voters have made light of the situation, poking fun at the similarities between Richard Curtis’ 2003 hit film and our turbulent times.

CityAM kicked things off with a somewhat, um, subtle nod towards the movie on Wednesday's front page:

Others said that the election is bound to be a success...as long as Bill Nighy releases a single and everyone gets into the festive spirit:

Of course, many people are calling for Hugh Grant to seize the chance to step behind the despatch box:

He even has Rylan Clark-Neal's backing:

Grant has not addressed the support he has received on Twitter.

In the multi-narrative movie, the Notting Hill actor plays David, a politician who has been recently elected Prime Minister.

He is portrayed as a likeable man who faces off against the U.S. President (Billy Bob Thornton) in the name of Britain and also begins a romance with staffer, Natalie (played expertly by Martine McCutcheon).

One of the most popular scenes from the film see Grant dancing around Number 10 to a Girls Aloud cover of Jump (For My Love).
