The debate is finally over as Primark confirms how to pronounce its name - but do you agree?

Forget the bargain buys, it seems there's a bigger talking point that no one's really known the answer to - until now.

A post on Facebook sparked an online debate about how to pronounce the clothing store Primark.

Fans of the shops are completely split over the pronunciation with some saying Pr-eye-mark and others pronouncing it as Pree-mark.

The issue was blown wide open when a customer decided they wanted to settle the debate once and for all in a Facebook group.

The Family Lowdown Tips & Ideas Facebook group has over one million members and many of them joined in to put across their opinion.

The user asked: "How do you pronounce Primark? (The clothes store). I thought everyone said it the same until yesterday when I heard someone call it Pr-E-Mark, I say Pr-I-Mark. Which is right?"

As it turns out not everyone is in agreement and one user said: "Pree-mark because we enjoy messing perfectly pronounceable words up in Northern Ireland".

It turns out that some people from Ireland and Wales all pronounce it as Pree-mark, people from England are more likely to pronounce it as Pr-eye-mark, and others use the nickname Primani or Penneys.

But thankfully the debate was settled when customers flocked to the Primark website searching for answers.

It seems, after so much debate, the company has even had to clarify the name of the shop itself and the results are in.

On its special page dedicated to the issue, it said: "How do you pronounce Primark? That's a very good question. We like to use Pr-Eye-Mark."

So there you have it. If you're pronouncing it differently, it's time to move on and accept defeat. Case closed.
