'The dead wood has gone' - Bristol Rovers fans rejoice as Stefan Payne leaves for Tranmere Rovers

Bristol Rovers fans have reacted happily to the news that Stefan Payne has left the club.

Rovers announced Payne's departure by mutual consent this afternoon, and he was quickly snapped up by League One rivals Tranmere Rovers.

His time at the Gas will not be fondly remembered, as he netted just twice in 20 league matches, made an offensive gesture towards fans and went AWOL before being shipped out on loan to former club Shrewsbury Town in January.

It means Rovers fans were pleased to see the back of the 27-year-old.

Chipstead Gas: The meltdown when Payne scores again us will be glorious.

Jon Lock: Fair play to him (and the club) - it's all too easy for a player to pocket a wage when he drops out of favour/form with a club. The fit didn’t work for either party and no doubt he’ll go on to play and score goals.

Daniel: For the best for everyone.

Sam Smith: Good to see all the dead wood gone now.

David Williams: Pleased he’s got a new role, we really got behind him initially, but there was no going back after ‘the incident’. Let’s hope he works harder for you for longer than he did for us, attitude can be impacted by lots of things of course!

Steve the Gashead: Will go to Shrewsbury on loan after a couple of months!!

Chris Spittles: Best for all concerned that Stefan Payne and Bristol Rovers part ways. Just didn't work out for him at the Mem.
