The dazzling Christmas spectacle perfect for all the family less than an hour from Manchester

Families can enjoy a dazzling light-up spectacle to get into the festive spirit - and it's less than an hours drive from Manchester. The Enchanted light trail, at Knowsley Safari, features an impressive offering of lights, rides and even the chance to meet Santa himself.

The incredibly popular animal-themed evening light trail, which completely sold-out last year, was official switched on for another festive season last night (November 19).

Excited families, wrapped up in their coats and scarves, flocked to the safari park on Saturday night, as they were offered the chance to indulge in a mulled wine or warming hot chocolate ahead of the trail, which is completed on foot.

The real lions and tigers may have been hidden away in the dark, but visitors could still be swept away by the magical atmosphere created by illuminated deer, giraffes, zebra, penguins, flamingos and many more, complete with popular Christmas tunes playing throughout.

And as entertaining as the dazzling displays were for adults and children alike, the little ones have the chance to pen a letter to Santa before posting it, and even meet the big man himself in a grotto at the Santa Experience. Visitors get a time slot to start the trail, and can enjoy walking around at their leisure with many perfect selfie spots on the way around.

In an additional touch this year, Knowsley Safari also introduced its brand new Christmas Carnival area, where families can grab warm food from the various stalls and toast marshmallows together, all included in the ticket price. The amusements are also lit up after dark for thrill-seeking families to enjoy at an additional cost, with carousels and a mini roller coaster among the rides on offer.

Rachel Scott, Head of Marketing, Knowsley Safari, said: "It’s one of the Safari’s most popular experiences and one which we know creates memories for generations of families. It’s wonderful to see visitors swept up in the magical atmosphere and we’re looking forward to another Knowsley Safari Christmas to remember.”

Enchanted tickets are priced at £11 and at special discounted price of £9 for members. Under 3s and carers are free. They’re available to book online for entry from 4.30pm until 7.15pm. It's recommended that visitors arrive in plenty of time to fully enjoy the experience before the park closes at 8pm.

There are also two Santa Experience packages to choose from. Tickets are £10 and £18 per child and must also be pre-booked online. The event runs from Saturday, November 19, until Friday, December 30.
