The Dayot Upamecano update to alert Arsenal as Mikel Arteta targets summer transfer

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta have been handed a boost in the hunt to bring Dayot Upamecano to the Emirates Stadium, with an update bolstering their chances of a deal.

German outlet Bild reports that the France defender is set to be available for a fixed price of €60m in the summer transfer window and he is refusing to extend his contract.

That would lead RB Leipzig to agree to a sale at the end of the campaign as he would be available on a free transfer at the end of his contract the following year.

While Arsenal are certainly not alone in the hunt for the highly-rated defender, there is also more encouragement from the report that will leave the Gunners quietly confident.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are said to be keen on securing the services of the defender, who put in an impressive performance in the goalless draw with Bayern in the Bundesliga at the weekend.

According to the report though, the Premier League is Upamecano's dream destination, although the German side are not ruling out a contract extension.

Sports director Markus Krosche has said: "Dayot is a very important player on our team and not only showed on Sunday what a fantastic defender he is. [He] will still be carried out with us in the future. I also think that we know each other what we have to each other - time will tell how things will go in the medium term. ”
