Remembering when Bon Jovi brought Glasgow to a standstill with gig on Argyle Street

There's only a handful of gigs so famous you can take real pride from telling people 'I was there'.

And this is truly one of them - Bon Jovi, at the height of their fame, playing smack bang in the middle of city centre in front of thousands of sun-drenched Glaswegians partying on the street.

Tonight we're turning the clock all the way back to the summer of 1995 to remember a concert so revered we're still hearing tales of it over 25 years later.

Of course, Bon Jovi blasting out their iconic rock tunes from the second floor window of Tower Records to an adoring crowd below wasn't the original plan for that balmy afternoon on June 14.

The band had attempted a busking session on the city centre streets - but the police soon intervened.

Instead, singer Jon Bon Jovi decided to move the action to the old Tower Records store and performed an impromptu half an hour set full of acoustic numbers.

Picture it - You Give Love A Bad Name delivered out the window to some 5,000 fans below on Argyle Street.

If you were lucky enough to be there then we imagine you’re still telling the story now. If you weren't there then the photo alone is worth seeing.

Ah, those were the days when you could pack yourself in next to thousands of sweaty, excited strangers ...

Jon and co weren’t the only bands to play at Tower Records either - apparently Pantera, Adam Ant and a fresh-faced, unsigned Biffy Clyro performed there before the place closed in 2002.

Read all about the Bon Jovi gig and 10 more bizarre moments in Glasgow music history - there are a few stories here you wouldn't believe.

And if you were lucky enough to catch the guys at Tower Records in 1995 then we want to hear from you - find us on Facebook or Twitter and share your story.
